Richard Green Sr. started trucking in the 1940’s with 1 truck hauling cans of milk from local farms to creameries. In 1950 Richard purchased a single axle tractor and a 30-foot cattle trailer. He hauled cattle, hay, sawdust, and just about anything else. Even taking Vermont Christmas trees to Florida and bringing back oranges. In the 1970’s Richard’s two sons Larry and Richard Jr began trucking each with their own truck. Hauling everything from fruit to windmills all over the US and Canada.
In 1984 Larry and Richard Jr incorporated the 3 entities into what is now Richard I Green INC. Shortly after a handshake contract to haul ice cream from VT to all over the US from a local start-up named Ben & Jerry’s. As well as bring Vermont milk to IN to be processed into Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. From there the business started to grow and by 1989 they were up to 25 trucks and 30 employees. In 1989 a new truck shop was built on the site of the Green family farm. The shop and business are still located at this location.
Through the next 15 years, We continued to diversify hauling Vermont made products including Cabot Cheese, Haun’s cream cheese, milk from local farms all over the US. In 2006 Richard Jr’s son Brian started running the day to day operations. We were able to survive It was at this time we started hauling chocolate to various locations in the US. This relationship with Barry Callebaut that we started hauling liquid chocolate in tanks to various customers.
In 2017 a dedicated agreement was formed with Barry Callebaut and it was at this time we decided to put all our efforts towards hauling liquid chocolate. Most of the reefers and milk tanks were sold. As well as downsizing to 14 trucks from 30. Through the years this has always been a family business. Almost all of Richard’s daughters have worked in the office at some point as well as Larry and Richard’s wives. Brother in-laws and cousins have all either worked in the shop or driven truck.
